Through the Jersey Overseas Aid programe, Dairy4Development, David Hambrook and his team are helping to strengthen the Rwandan dairy industry, helping smallholder farmers get out of poverty through more efficient milk production.  It is critical that cows are fertile, and one of the primary challenges is accessing cattle genetics that will cope in the African environment with less feed and higher temperatures. The D4D team are now using Dynescan to test semen straws to make sure that they are delivering the best quality to the cow, thus helping to ensure smallholders making enough money to survive. The Dynescan device is well suited for this task since the output is very easy to use and results are highly reproducible. 

Poor experimental practice when using traditional CASA systems often hid the real values.  Dynescan is now helping to provide quality control through numerous challenges involved in the AI process including: handling of samples, liquid nitrogen storage and transportation.
